Patanjali Yog Peeth Trust UK (PYPT) was founded in 1995 by Swami Ramdevji Maharaj and its objective is to promote Yoga UK (yog pranayam and asan – breathing and posture techniques) as part of a Health Awareness and Healthy Living campaign in the UK.
PYPT asked for our help in organizing their current website and preparing it for this year’s Summer Camp 2007. Before our web designers and developers started their work on the website, it was static, dull and poor in design. It needed some refreshment and new approach for visitors. The first thing to do was to organize the site with a completely new sitemap and the structure of content. Using PHP and MySQL web development techniques, we created a backend Content Management System that allowed the administrators to add content and update it regularly very easily.
We also took advantage of today’s web technologies and added some training videos online. We accomplished that by taking one of the Yoga VCD’s and breaking it down into smaller yoga sessions that we uploaded to YouTube and linked them to the site. Although it took us a few days it was all worth it because it was a great introduction to Yoga and the members of the trust were very satisfied with the result.
Within two months most of the website content was rewritten with Search Engine Optimization(SEO) in mind. The pdf files were converted into plain text and all the pages were made DB driven but with friendly URL’s. All the HTML code was validated because we believe that writing valid HTML is one of the most important things for every web developer.
With hard work and persistency we managed to accomplish our aim to create a user friendly website with clear navigation and impressive design. These things make browsing the website a great experience for visitors and encourage them to return.
